Sierra Boat celebrates it's 60th year of continuous operation in 2012. Here's a little history. The marina and original buildings were actually completed in 1949 and operated as Ballard Marine. Unfortunately, Ballard went bankrupt within a few years. A group of enthusiastic boat racers headed by Stanley R. Dollar Jr. bought the company out of bankruptcy in 1952 and re-named it Sierra Boat Co.  Sierra took on Century Boats in 1954, which it sold up through 1985. Along the way it also sold other brands, which included Arena Craft boats and Donzi. The Hall family purchased the boat company from Dollar and partners in 1977 and continues to own an operate it today. The sales of Centuy Boats in particular required that the company employ people who were skilled in varinish, woodworking and mechanical. We still employ the same kind of people. We like to tell people, we didn't get in to the business of wooden boats , we never stopped working on them.
